I loaded a test list and run a verification. I get "Unknown" in the Verification Result for all email addresses. What does it mean? How do I get my list verified?
If you use the direct internet connection option in the AEV settings (Connection), make sure that your ISP does not block the port 25. Go to the Settings -> Connection and click on the Test button.
If the test fails, it means that your ISP blocks the port 25 and you cannot verify email addresses in the direct connection mode. To be able to verify emails, consider these options:
1) use a web script provided with the Advanced Email Verifier, or
2) use a socks proxy server. You can obtain a good working socks proxy server here.
If the direct connection test passes, or if you already use either the web script or socks proxy server, but you still get the "Unknown" result for all emails, look at the domains you verify emails from.
By default we excluded the email addresses from such domains as hotmail.com, live.com, and yahoo.co* from verification. You can go to Settings –> Rules and see that there are the rules to automatically mark the emails from the above domains as "Unknown". Why? Because you may get blacklisted if you verify the email addresses from hotmail.com, live.com, and yahoo.co* domains. The mail servers on these domains attempt to do the FCrDNS verification when the user connects. If the FCrDNS verification fails, the user’s IP address goes to a blacklist.
You can verify the email from the above domains either using a web script it the FCrDNS (Forward-Confirmed reverse DNS) test passes for your domain, or using a socks proxy server which has FCrDNS records properly setup.
But if the email addresses from any other domains are always marked as "Unknown", look at the LastResponse field or at the Log for those emails. There must be the explanation why the email address was marked as Unknown.
